An Overview We really like cruising out of Cape Liberty so the
choices are few. We've sailed on Royal Caribbean's
Liberty of the Seas several times. Sailing out of Cape Liberty in New
Jersey an easy 2-1/2 hour drive from home. No air
travel, hotels, and shuttles. The
itinerary for this cruise included a couple stops in New
England and three in Canada.
Advance forecast for all of the ports we were scheduled to
visit called for clouds and rain. What we actually got
was perfect sunny warm weather EVERY day.
Per usual, we booked an Inside GTY and tried our luck with
the RoyalUP bidding process. Like before, we won a bid
and ended up with an Inside Promenade View Cabin.
Boston, MA For this port we decided to try going on a Duck Tour
of Boston. This was one of the excursions offered on
Royal's website. We've never done something like this
before so the adventurous side of us decided to give it a
try. It was interesting and fun.
Portland ME Per It's been YEARS since our
last visit to Portland and it wasn't by cruise ship.
We didn't book an excursion and figured we'd wander
around. We happened across this antique fire truck and
thought it would be an interesting tour. They were
booked but had a cancellation on a later trip. No
problem, it was hot and the Starbucks across the street was
just the place to wait for our turn. It was a short
tour but interesting none the less.
Canada
There were three stops in Canada all of which we've visited
before. We booked an excursion in Halifax out to
Peggy's Cove since it's been years before our last
visit. A lot of improvements and changes have been
mad. The crowds, however, are the same. We
didn't book any excursions in St.John and in Sydney so we
decided to simply wander around the port area. As
mentioned elsewhere, we had perfect weather for checking out
the area on foot.
