February 2010
WOW!! What a month this has been!! February 1st marked the beginning of my retirement and it couldn't have come at a better time. It was fabulous not having to drive to work in the stuff and having the time to enjoy it. I'm sure all of you know that we are avid amateur photographers so the beauty around us wasn't to be wasted.
NOTE: Clicking on some of these images will take you to our flickr site where you will find additional details and camera information.
The first February snow rolled in mid week on the 3rd. I have been admiring the shape of some trees out on the golf course but I was never around to capture some images with fresh snow on them.
About a week later the BIG one rolled in. This one dumped about 20" on us and caused blizzard conditions throughout the area. The areas to the south were hit harder than us. Places like Washington DC and Baltimore were at a standstill for several days. All municipalities were blowing their snow budgets.
For the first time, I actually went out and took some pictures while it was snowing. I started early in the morning before blizzard conditions began.
Needless to say, when conditions got REALLY bad we simply hunkered down and stayed in. The morning after we were out at dawn to take some pictures around the neighborhood and dig out.

Two days before months end yet more snow came our way. This one only added 3"-4" but the biggest concern was the wind which gusted into the 40's. It looked like nothing would be captured on this one until I looked out the window around 10:30pm. The sky had cleared letting the light of a full moon shine thru so out came the camera and tripod...
To summarize, it's been a really great time to be off. Instead of fighting the weather to get somewhere, it was nice being around to take pictures of it....
