Night Photography

March 2010

The web page cover TWO night photography events that we participated in recently.  They are completely different from each other but share the fact that both were conducted at night.

The first event took place with a group of photographers from the Lancaster County Photography Meet-Up Group.  About 20 of us met at dusk at an individuals home with plenty of room around it for a bunch experiments to take place.  All manor of lighting devices were on hand.  Everything from flashlights to glow sticks.  Methods for swinging them around were also devised and fooled with during the event.  In short order, Kathy gave up on the photography and filled in twirling lights around.  I used my off camera flash to light up people handling the lights.

The second event was with Mike Hagan from the Delaware County Photography Meet-Up Group.  Mike secured a 15 passenger bus to take us around in Philadelphia from dusk to midnight.  Having someone else driving and dropping us off really saved a lot of time so we could concentrate on taking pictures.  Mike didn't bring a camera so he could concentrate on providing any instruction we might need.  Overall it was a nice balance between a photo tour and instruction.  For us this was an opportunity to get into areas of the city that we in no way would attempt on our own.  The evening culminated with cheese steak sandwiches in south philly at 11pm!!!
