Key West, Florida

(with an overnighter in South Beach)

February 2015

We were in Miami for a one week cruise aboard NCL Epic and decided to spend some post cruise time in Florida.  We've never been to Key West so we rented a car and made the three+ hour drive to Key West.  We had advance reservations at the "An Island Oasis", which was the cheapest we could find.  Not the best of places we've ever stayed in but it provided a place to sleep.  Lodging costs in Key West are generally pretty high.  Anyway, we stayed two nights which gave us a full day to explore.  We also left the car and WALKED everywhere to the tune of 16,000+ steps on my fitbit, a personal record.

Following our Key West visit, we headed back to Miami and decided to spend the night in South Beach.  We had heard a lot about the place and decided staying one night before flying home would be worthwhile.  Frankly, we enjoyed South Beach more than Key West and wished we had stayed there instead.  For our one night, we stayed at "The President Hotel".  I should mention that The President's sister hotel, "The Penguin Hotel" was featured on an episode of "Hotel Impossible" a couple years ago.  Our room was large, clean, comfortable, included breakfast, and was a short walk from the beach.  All in all, we liked the place and the South Beach scene.
